ABUNDANT RESOURCES

Kansas is highly committed to the success of bioscience researchers and businesses, and the state backs up that commitment with tangible support. For example, the Kansas Bioscience Authority is investing $581 million in bioscience projects to support industrial growth and help address national bioscience challenges. This initiative is one of the most innovative in the nation and is generating significant outcomes in the state’s bioscience economy.

Kansas also has a proven track record of bringing big, visionary ideas to life — on budget and on time. These initiatives have encouraged the development of assets that will accelerate the success of the NBAF in Kansas, such as the following:
  • Kansas State University is nationally recognized for its expertise and programs in livestock medicine and zoonotic, emerging, and reemerging infectious diseases.
  • K-State’s Biosecurity Research Institute is the nation’s most modern BSL-3 Agricultural facility.
  • The National Agricultural Biosecurity Center at K-State is focused on protecting America’s agricultural infrastructure and economy from endemic and emerging biological threats.
  • The Kansas City region is recognized for its reputation as the animal health epicenter of the world. The Animal Health Corridor, stretching from Columbia, Mo., to Manhattan, Kan., includes more than 120 animal health organizations (37 of which are global leaders) and employs more than 13,000 specialists.
  • Kansas has an exceptional student population and educated work force, thanks to five major universities with animal science and/or veterinary programs within a 300-mile radius.

Simply put, Kansas’ elected officials and community leaders understand and value the importance of bioscience research and development and have devoted significant resources to the success of this sector. Further, the state has made protecting the American food supply a top bioscience priority, dedicating unique expertise and assets to this critically important effort.
