Thomas G. Ksiazek is currently chief of the Special Pathogens Branch, Division of Viral and Rickettsial Diseases (DVRD), National Center for Zoonoses, Vector-borne, and Enteric Diseases (NCZVED [proposed]), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He previously worked as chief of the Disease Assessment Section, Special Pathogens Branch, DVRD, NCID, CDC as well as chief of the Rapid Diagnosis Department, Disease Assessment Division, US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, Ft. Detrick. He received his B.S. and D.V.M. degrees from Kansas State University, his M.S. from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and his Ph.D. fro the University of California.
His scientific interests include epidemiology/ecology and laboratory diagnosis of hemorrhagic fevers and arthropod-borne viral diseases. He is the author/co-author of more than 275 research papers. His international experience includes long-term professional assignments in England, Taiwan, Indonesia and Egypt as well as extensive outbreak experience in Asia, Africa and South America. His personal interests include wood working and recreational welding.
