Senator Gilstrap, a third generation Wyandotte County Democrat, is the first freshman term senator from Wyandotte County to be appointed to the prestigious Ways and Means Committee of the Kansas Senate. Currently, he is Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Transportation Committee. The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee, and the Joint Committee on State Tribal Relations Committee. His other committee assignments include Public Health and Welfare, Healthcare Strategies, Interstate Cooperation, and the Joint Committee on Special Claims Against the State.
JoAnne Gilstrap, a registered pharmacist in both Kansas and Missouri, also is a third generation Wyandotte Countian. She, as is the Senator, is an avid jogger.
The three Gilstrap children, all young adults, share their parents’ interest in a broad spectrum of subjects, including sports, in which they are active participants and enthusiastic observers.
