Landon H. Rowland

Landon H. Rowland is Director and Chairman Emeritus of Janus Capital Group. Prior to July, 2000 he was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kansas City Southern Industries (KCSI) (NYSE: KSU). In July 2000, the transportation and financial services operations of KCSI were separated and the financial services operations were incorporated in Stilwell Financial Inc. (NYSE: SV) of which Mr. Rowland was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. In September 2003 all of Stilwell Financial subsidiaries were merged into Stilwell and the name changed to Janus Capital Group, where Mr. Rowland continued as Chairman until January 2004.

Mr. Rowland joined KCSI in 1980, became President and Chief Operating Officer in 1983 and Chief Executive Officer in 1987, continuing in that capacity until 2000. During his service as President and Chief Executive Officer of KCSI, company’s transportation division, Kansas City Southern Railway, acquired Mid-South Railway, Gateway Western Railway, Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana Railway (in Mexico) and the Panama Canal Railway; KCSI’s financial services division acquired Janus Capital, Berger Funds, Nelson Money Managers (U.K.), and INTECH, and spin off of DST Systems in 1995. Mr. Rowland was Chairman of the Board of DST Systems, Inc., a former KCSI subsidiary, from 1983 to 1995.

He is Chairman of the Garden City Bank, Garden City, Missouri, and Ever Glades Financial, Kansas City, Missouri.

Prior to joining KCSI, Mr. Rowland was a partner in the law firm of Watson, Ess, Marshall & Enggas of Kansas City, Missouri (1962-1980) and professorial lecturer in antitrust law at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (1977-1979).

Mr. Rowland is Chairman of the Local Investment Commission (LINC), Swope Ridge Geriatric Center, and a member and Vice Chairman of the Kansas City Health Commission. He is also Chairman of the Metropolitan Performing Arts Fund. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Catholic Reporter, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, the American Royal Association, the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Riordan Endowed Chair for Orthomolecular Medicine & Research Program in Integrative Medicine, Business Executives for National Security, the American Arbitration Association, and Major Brands He is a trustee of the Linda Hall Library, the Midwest Research Institute, the Liberty Memorial Association, the Committee for Economic Development, and the Command and General Staff College Foundation, Inc.

Mr. Rowland received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1959 and a bachelor of laws degree from Harvard Law School in 1962.
